A resident of McGregor, formerly of Prior Lake, Margaret Ann Walker, was 70, when she passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer, September 15, 2014, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. A Celebration of Life Service will be on Friday, September 19, at 11 am, with visitation one hour prior, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, MN. Pastor A. Paul Olson will preside. Margaret will be laid to rest at 3:30 pm graveside service at Rose Creek Cemetery in Austin, MN.

On September 12, 1944, in Austin, MN, Margaret was the younger of two children born to parents, Faye and Elda (Schloo) Hansen. Growing up in Austin, she formed a life-long love for animals. Margaret especially loved her cat Fritzie and was proud of finding a baby rabbit and nursing it back to health. She enjoyed playing softball for the local 4H Club and even playing the accordion. In 1962, Margaret graduated from Austin High School.

At a card club event, Margaret meet a young man named Edward Walker. Their loved flourished and on November 3, 1962 at Holy Trinity United Methodist Church in Austin, MN, Margaret and Edward exchanged wedding vows. They were blessed with two children, Judy and Roger. They first lived in Minneapolis and then later moved to Bloomington. Margaret really wanted to have a horse, so in 1972, the Walker family moved to Prior Lake and she became the proud owner of a mare and a baby colt.

In earlier years, Margaret and Edward bought a lot on Lake Minnewawa. First living in a camper, they later built a garage and eventually expanded the living quarters. In 2002, Margaret and Edward retired and established McGregor as their home. The lake brought many treasured memories, fishing, boating, and visiting with friends and family. Margaret was extremely proud of being an exceptional bocce ball player, winning many tournaments. In search of warmer weather, she and Edward spent each winter, since 2003, at the Hidden Valley Ranch in Mission, TX. From November to April they enjoyed playing bingo, polka dancing, going to the club house on Friday nights and seeing the sights along the Rio Grande River.

Most of Margaret’s career was spent working for Sears. She worked ten years in the mail order department and after being a daycare mom for 12 years, Margaret then worked the next 16 ½ years part-time in the service center department at the Eden Prairie location.

Margaret’s biggest passion in life was being a loving and devoted wife, mom and grandma. She relished playing the board game Aggravation with her family, even though Edward would always win. An extraordinary cook and baker, Margaret especially loved to make Christmas cookies.

Left to honor Margaret’s life and mourn the death is her husband Edward; children, Judy Foeller, Roger (Carrie) Walker; grandchildren, Jessie Foeller, Jamie Foeller, Josh Foeller; brother, Melvin Hansen: other loving relatives and devoted friends.

Preceded in death and there to welcome Margaret home in heaven is her parents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
