Marilyn Carlson, age 68, of Eden Prairie, MN, passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones, on April 29, 2021, at The Pillars, in Oakdale, MN.
A public visitation will be held on Friday, May 14 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Peace Lutheran Church, 8600 East Bush Lake Road, Bloomington. A private memorial service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, on Saturday, May 15 at 11:00 am. Marilyn will be laid to rest at a private family burial at Sunset Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Peace Lutheran Church or the Ostomy Association of the Minneapolis Area. (OAMA)
Marilyn was born to Bob and Ruth Carlson on July 17, 1952. That day, the world became a better place. She graduated from Washburn High School in 1970. Marilyn was a member of her neighborhood church, Epiphany Lutheran. After moving to the growing community of Eden Prairie in 1979, she loved telling wonderful stories of growing up on 47 th and 15 th in south Minneapolis, occasionally driving by her old family home. Many happy family summers were spent at the cabins on Fox Lake, Lake Roosevelt and later at the Thunder Lake cabin.
Marilyn loved her “other family” at Deli Express, where she began her career on March 11, 1985. Marilyn was a loyal employee who never missed work. Even on the snowiest days, she counted on her boss, Ron to pick her up and bring her to work. Marilyn retired from Deli Express in 2017 after 32 years.
As an avid reader, book club was especially important to Marilyn. She loved word search, jigsaw puzzles, the theater, HGTV and was a “charter” member of the TV show Grey’s Anatomy. Marilyn never missed a Thursday night episode! She was actively involved in the Ostomy Association of Minneapolis, Gustavus Adolphus II Women’s Auxiliary and TOPS Club.
Ever the diehard Twins fan, even after a loss, Marilyn quote would be “there are still a lot of games to play”. She was a 25-year season ticket holder for the Minnesota North Stars. Not a lot of attention was paid to the game, it was much more a social event with her friends. Marilyn had a jersey or sweatshirt for all the Minnesota sports teams.
As a faithful servant of the Lord, Marilyn was a long-time member of Peace Lutheran Church and enjoyed being involved in activities at the church. Her favorite, in retirement, was the Quilters. Closest to Marilyn’s heart was faith, family, and friends. She loved participating in her nieces and nephews’ lives; fishing with them at the cabin, traveling to weddings; being a part of all the important milestones. Marilyn took care of her parents, in their shared home, until their deaths. Recently, Marilyn enjoyed Friday pancakes at the OPH with her great nephews.
We will miss her Roadrunner “beep, beeps”, running for the door and yelling “doorbell” on Halloween, “okie dokies”, and “Love you more”.
Marilyn leaves behind her brother Michael (Tammy), sister Marcia (Jim), 2 nieces, 3 nephews, 6 great nieces and nephews. There to meet her in heaven were her mom and dad, Bob and Ruth.
It is with great sadness we say farewell for now, Marilyn.
