Matt’s life story

Matthew Leon Korkowski

Matt Korkowski was born November 11, 1990 to parents Christopher and Cindy Korkowski at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina. He was a handsome baby with beautiful brown eyes. Cindy, Chris and Matt’s older brother, Luke, welcomed the new addition to their family. Although Matt and Luke were polar opposites, they were very close at a young age. As they grew up, Matt had a hard time keeping up with Luke, but he always looked up to his older brother. When Matt was about 4 ½ years old, the Korkowski family moved to Prior Lake.

As a child, Matt was very happy-go-lucky. Whether he was at a baseball game with his dad, attending open skate with friends or just hanging out with his family, he always enjoyed life. In grade school, Matt was known to all of his teachers as the class clown. He was always making his classmates laugh and bringing smiles to their faces.

In Kindergarten, Matt developed an interest in football and hockey. That interest developed into a passion that continued into high school. Matt was on the D-line in hockey, and he was the center in football. Matt also spent a lot of time working out and lifting weights. He graduated from Prior Lake High School in 2009.
Matt then attended Dakota County Vo-Tech and eventually got an apprenticeship at Phase Electric in Bloomington. Matt made a career for himself as an electrician with the company. He was a hard worker and a very valued member of the team.

Matt was very active and spent a lot of time on Prior Lake. He loved boating, water skiing and wakeboarding. Matt was known for being the first person on water skis each season. One year he went waterskiing in March as soon as the ice went out. Matt also enjoyed snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, hunting and riding his motorcycle.
Although Matt had many hobbies, his biggest passion in life was his friends. They were so important to him, and he was always a loyal friend. Matt loved his friends, and they loved him. They were his closest confidants and biggest supporters through all of life’s challenges. Matt especially enjoyed spending time with his niece, Leila.

Matt loved life, but his tragically ended much too soon on the evening of Saturday, March 22, 2014. His family and friends will forever miss the sparkle in his eye and his infectious smile.

Matt will always be remembered by his loving parents, Chris and Cindy Korkowski; brother, Luke (Stephanie) Korkowski; niece, Leila; grandparents, Mary Peterson, Patricia and Ray Kirchmeyer, Leon and Shirley Korkowski; great-grandma, Donna Barnes; godparents, Eric Peterson, Jeff Korkowski, and Nicole Korkowski, other loving relatives and many close friends. Matt is preceded in death by his grandpa, Allan Peterson; great-grandpa, Richard Barnes; great-uncles, David Barnes and David Peterson.

Pall bearers are Cody Johnson, Christopher Stein, Josh Stang, Chad Fettig, Aaron Johnson and Gabriel Erickson.
