On Christmas Day 1963, Maureen Elizabeth Casey was born to Robert & Irene (Harkins) Casey. She was the youngest of four children and a beloved gift to the family right from the start. Maureen enjoyed growing up on the family farm where she developed a strong work ethic and a love for nature. As a girl she was involved in 4H & cheerleading.
After graduating from Le Sueur High School, Maureen earned her nursing degree from St. Kate’s. She was born with a caregiver’s heart and proud to be a nurse. Her patients loved her dearly and Maureen always did what she could to provide them with excellent care. Throughout her life, Maureen worked as a nurse in geriatric, med surg, home health, cardiac, ICU and private care. Her caregiving spirit shined brightly until her last day and will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Maureen cherished being a mom to Connor and Colleen. She did everything she could to give her children a wonderful life. She and their father, Timothy Kingma, took the kids on vacations and made sure every birthday and Christmas was celebrated. Maureen always made sure her kids had whatever they needed. They were Maureen’s most treasured gifts.
She captured every opportunity to visit Connor and Colleen in Prior Lake. She never came empty handed. She loved showering them with gifts and often brought ingredients to bake her famous almond loaf cake with her kids. Fishing with Connor was another favorite thing of hers. He wasn’t only her son, but he was her best friend. Maureen loved being outside and feeling the sun on her face. She loved visiting her children, grand-dogs and just being surrounded by the people she loved most.
Maureen loved gardening, pressing flowers and creating floral art. Maureen shared her talent with family and friends by teaching and gifting her pieces. She inherited her creativity and passion for flowers from her dear Mom. It was a floral ministry and allowed Maureen to connect with everyone she loved. Every Mother’s Day Maureen and her daughter would spend the day planting flowers and creating new gardens at Colleen’s home.
Those who knew Maureen well know that she had a hard life and overcame many struggles. She never let these struggles define her. She lived a positive life and always led with love. Maureen was welcoming to every person she met, spread joy wherever she went and worried endlessly about the people she loved. She was a force to be reckoned with, and her compassion, love and fun personality will be missed forever. Blessed be her memory.
Maureen now lives on in the hearts of her loving family. She is survived by her children, Connor & Colleen Kingma; siblings, Patrick (Carol) Casey, Kathleen (Tom) Skelly; sister-in-law, Lori Casey; nieces & nephews; loving relatives, neighbors and friends. Maureen was embraced in Heaven by her parents, Robert & Irene Casey and brother, Thomas Casey.
