Michael was preceded in death by his father, William Halpenny.
Michael graduated from the University of ND with a Masters Degree of Science in Communication Disorders in 1988. Following his graduation, Michael became employed as a Speech Pathologist for one of the nation’s leading rehabilitation companies. Michael worked directly with patients, and in various areas of management until his early retirement due to ALS.
Michael was also an avid competitive swimmer since the age of 13, eventually swimming for UND where he was NCAA All American and went on to be honored by UND as an inductee into the UND Hall of Fame for his swimming accomplishments. Following college, Michael continued to swim as a member of the MN Masters Swim Team. When Michael’s own personal swimming career came to an end, he remained involved as a mentor to others in the sport of swimming, volunteering his knowledge and many hours to his own community swim club.
