Oriette’s life story
Oriette Jeanne “Chris” Roehl
Chris was born May 20, 1930 in Lily, SD. She was the youngest child of P.O. and Nellie (Haug) Christopherson, born minutes after her twin brother, Orville Eugene, and several years after big sister, Norma. She was raised on the family farm. Chris left SD for Minneapolis to attend the Fairview Hospital School of Nursing, where she acquired her Registered Nurse diploma. Minneapolis is also where she met her husband, Lowell.
After marrying, the couple moved to Bloomington, where they raised their two children, Barbara and Douglas. During her career, Chris worked at Fairview Southdale Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital, and Phillips Eye Institute. After retirement, Chris and Lowell moved south all the way to Burnsville. During retirement, they enjoyed reading, learning, and travel. They attended more than 20 Elderhostel programs and took many bus trips, visiting nearly every state and also part of Europe. Chris loved tending her plants, feeding and watching birds, reading and cooking recipes, setting up estate sales as an Ebenezer Society volunteer, attending lutefisk dinners, visiting casinos in MN and nearby states, and visiting with family and friends – old and new.
Chris and Lowell returned to Bloomington in October. Unfortunately, Chris was unable to fully enjoy her new home, as her health rapidly declined. She died at home on December 21 with family present.
Chris is preceded in death by her parents and siblings. She is survived by her husband, Lowell; daughter, Barbara (Kyle) Schroeder of Prior Lake; son, Douglas of Huron, SD; grandsons, Jordan and Braden Roehl; and extended family and friends.
A private family service was held Dec. 22nd at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home in Prior Lake. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials preferred to the American Heart Assoc., Salvation Army, or Virginia Piper Cancer Institute.
The Roehl family is served with utmost honor, care, and compassion by Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation Services, Prior Lake Chapel.
