Phyllis Mannie

Phyllis Mannie, age 89 of Jordan, entered eternal life on Wednesday, July 17, 2019. A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 starting at 4:00PM with a Liturgy of the Word at 6:30PM at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 104 First St. West.

On January 18, 1930 in Minneapolis, MN, parents Dana and Agnes (Smude) Stage celebrated the birth of their daughter, Phyllis. She was one of three children to be raised in South Minneapolis. Phyllis attended parochial grade school and South High School in Minneapolis. Following her graduation, she went to work in a photo-finishing studio. Outside of work, Phyllis often went roller skating.

While at the St. Louis Park Roller Gardens she met a young man, Robert “Bob” Mannie. The two instantly hit it off. On February 3, 1951 the couple exchanged wedding vows and were blessed with 62 years together and a wonderful family.

With their children in tow, Phyllis and Bob moved south of the river to start a hobby farm, first in Savage then to Elko/New Market.

When her children were older, Phyllis began working at Midland Glass of Shakopee. She was there for many years until a car accident prevented her from returning to work. True to her no-nonsense, determined demeanor, Phyllis didn’t let this setback prevent her from enjoying life. She continued her hobbies of sewing, reading, completing crosswords, watching All My Children with Bob, and traveling. They took the RV out west, up north, and everywhere in between.

After Bob’s retirement, they moved to their home on Lake Pokegema—the highlight of their life together. Phyllis enjoyed hosting family gatherings at the lake where they would fish, socialize, and spend time together. She was happily surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While in Grand Rapids, Phyllis joined the kennel club, gun club, and a local four wheeling club. When Bob became ill, they returned to Jordan to be closer to their family.

A redheaded firecracker, Phyllis is loved and missed by her children, Lori (Norm) Pint, Bob (Monica Schuette) Mannie, Mike (Shannon Hodge) Mannie, Cathy (Marv) Kes; grandchildren, Karl (Heather Sanders) Pint, Amy (Brent) Durand, Elliot Pint, Michael (Jennifer) Mannie, Nathan Mannie, Christina (Jake) Bastyr, Jonathan (Heidi) Simon, Sara (Tim) Hentges, Bryan Kes; 18 great-grandchildren & another on the way; other relatives and friends.

Phyllis is greeted in Heaven by her husband, Bob Mannie; parents; siblings, Ted (Pearl) Stage, Delores (Al) Ackman and sister-in-law, Beverly Pertinen.
