Bob’s life story
Robert “Bob” Haugh
Born at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Paul, MN, on Wednesday, January 21, 1931, Robert Leonard was the son to parents Mark Joseph and Agnes Theresa (Loftus) Haugh. Born a twin, Bob grew up with his brother, Rolly and sister Marilyn on the family farm in Credit River Township. As a family they milked cows, tended to the crops and it was here that Bob’s hard work ethic was established. He attended and later graduated from Lakeville High School in 1948.
Through the years of riding the bus, attending Mass at St. Peter’s Church and after high school, Bob started dating Betty Borka. On July 5, 1952, Bob and Betty were united in marriage at St. Peter’s Church. They were blessed with 9 children, Jim, Barb, Bill, Jayne, Mary, Mark, Dan, Dick and Patty.
As a family, they continued on the dairy operations on his parent’s farm. To this day, the farm, established in 1855, still is in the family name. Over the years, Bob took a fond interest to Shetland ponies. These ponies (26 to be exact) gave the family many precious memories through the years. After selling the dairy cows, Bob raised Black Angus Beef for many years. He also owned and operated the Union 76 Station in Prior Lake for 15 years, in the 70’s and 80’s. A man of hard work, he also held other various jobs along the way and built many precise fence lines over the years.
There really was never a free moment for Bob; he still was able to enjoy attending auctions throughout the state buying those precious ponies and exotic birds. A strong supporter of Credit River, Bob served as the township clerk and over 24 years on the cemetery board. He was deeply proud of living in Credit River most of his life.
The biggest passion in Bob’s life was his family. He treasured Sunday afternoons walking through the woods with his children and then sitting down at the formal dining room table to enjoy a wonderful meal. Bob took this opportunity to teach his children table manners. As the grandchildren came along, he would sit in the waiting room, awaiting their arrival.
Starting as a young boy, Bob was a faithful servant of God. Attended weekly mass, he prayed the rosary daily. In more recent years, Bob would say 22 rosaries a day for his 22 grandchildren, along with other requests that were brought to his attention. The most kind and gentle husband, Dad, grandpa and brother, Bob never raised a voice to anyone. Passionate about other’s concerns, he would listen to every word spoken and never said an ill word about anyone.
During the early morning hours of Monday, November 5, 2012, Bob was greeted by the angels in heaven, as his family was present at his side, at his home in Prior Lake. He was 81 years young.
Deeply missed, Bob will be forever loved by wife of 60 years, Betty; children, Jim (Cathy) Haugh of Prior Lake, Barb (Steve) Kappers of Prior Lake, Bill (Judith) Haugh of Prior Lake, Jayne (Dave) Novak of Prior Lake, Mary (John) Mesenbrink of Prior Lake, Mark (Shelley) Haugh of Prior Lake, Dan (Lori) Haugh of Prior Lake, Dick (Denise Fischer) Haugh Prior Lake, Patty Lloyd of Webster; grandchildren, Jake, Emmie, Tim, Lauren, Mikel, Maria, Nate, Chris, Nikki, Jessica, Jenna, Brittney, Tona, Johnny, Josh, Joe, Venessa, Austin, Darin, Gracie, Lizzy, Katie; great-grandchildren, Kina, Ty, Kaydance, Owen, Tayler, Aveyda, Layla; twin brother, Rolly (Jeanette) Haugh of Prior Lake; nephews, Steve and Tom Haugh; and other loving relatives and devoted friends.
