Robert’s Lifestory

Robert Mathias Schmidt

Robert Mathias Schmidt was born in Shakopee on February 2, 1926 to parents Peter and Catherine (Meier) Schmidt. He was the 5th oldest of 13 children. He and his siblings stayed active helping their father run the family farm.

Robert met Dorothy Tellers, and after a period of courtship they were united in marriage on November 30, 1957 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Assumption, MN. From that union came five children, Edward, Sandra, William, Martha, and Geralyn.

He was employed with Lakeland Door Company for 28 years, where he helped with quality control and manufacturing of residential doors. In his early years, he worked at a foundry, but had to leave for health reasons. In his retirement years he worked part-time at Stonebrooke Golf Course and Minnesota Valley Fencing.

Robert enjoyed fishing, vegetable gardening, cutting his grass, and feeding and watching the birds and squirrels in his yard. He had a special knack for wood working, where he could build most anything, including garden sheds, tables, desks, knick/knack shelves and refurbishing old items. He enjoyed his popcorn while enjoying his TV shows, especially Animal Planet, Gunsmoke and All Star Wrestling, but if Rifleman was on, don’t bother him, as that was his favorite.

On December 15, 2013 at the age of 87, Robert entered God’s arms and became reunited with his wife, Dorothy.

Forever loved, Robert will be deeply missed by his children, Edward Schmidt of Montgomery, Sandra (Terry) Palma of Montgomery, William (Linda Kight) Schmidt of Belle Plaine, Martha Schmidt of Cannon Falls, Geralyn (Ken) Morrell of Burnsville; grandchildren, Andrew and Riley Snyder; brothers, Dick (Darlene) Schmidt of Shakopee, Paul (LaVina) Schmidt of Shakopee; sister, Marie (Francis) Bisek of New Prague; many other loving relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Schmidt; parents, Peter and Catherine Schmidt; siblings, Roman Schmidt(in infancy), Harold Schmidt, Ann Brown, Theresa Lehnen, Al Schmidt, Art Schmidt, Walter Schmidt, Tony Schmidt, Joe Schmidt; grandson, Jeremiah Morrell.

Pall bearers for Robert will be Steve Theis, Joe Zlotkowski, Andrew Snyder, Riley Snyder, Albert Tellers, Dan Schmidt. Honorary Pall bearers will be Bernie Lewandowski, Bob Larson.
