Rodger’s life story
Rodger Frank McQuarrie was born on August 27, 1955 to parents, Frank and Frances (Olson) McQuarrie. Rodger grew up in Nordeast Minneapolis. As a boy, Rodger enjoyed many events as a Boy Scout and took a backpacking trip to New Mexico. Rodger’s lifelong passion for motors began as a child, and at age 17 he bought his first car. Rodger graduated from Edison High School which was where he discovered his passion for the printing business.
After high school, Rodger attended the Hennepin County Vocational School and became a pressman. He worked for many years at Poucher Printing. Rodger always took pride in what he did and loved his work. He had numerous jobs in the industry and eventually ended up at Maximum Graphics.
Although printing was a love of Rodger’s, it was at a May Day party that he met the true love of his life, Vicki. Even though Rodger lost Vicki’s phone number, he was still able to track her down and take her out on a date. After four years together, Rodger and Vicki were married on December 8, 1984 in Arlington. They built a home in Maple Grove and welcomed the birth of their two children, Karina and Kevin. Once the kids were school aged, Rodger and Vicki moved their family to Prior Lake, and have called it home for the past 15 years.
Rodger was very active and loved being outdoors. He always had a speedboat for water skiing and fun in the sun with family and friends. Rodger was a huge fan of Arctic Cat snowmobiles and never missed a chance to get out in fresh snow.
It was at the family cabin on Woman Lake that Rodger spent summer days swimming, boating and playing cards. He’d also go to the cabin for an annual deer hunting trip with his father, brother and friends. Rodger loved entertaining whether it be hosting his friend Bernie for a glass of Kahlua or planning the annual “River Trip” for a group of 20-30 friends. For the past 22 years, Rodger has organized the “River Trip” and it will not be the same without him. Rodger was known to all as a strong but gentle man who was always busy making life good for everyone around him.
Rodger McQuarrie was surrounded by his family when he died October 16, 2013. He will always be remembered by his wife, Vicki (Prescher) McQuarrie of Prior Lake; children, Karina McQuarrie and Kevin McQuarrie; siblings, Sandra (Ron) Beckman of Minnetonka, Darlene McQuarrie of North-East Minneapolis, Jeff McQuarrie of Longville; brother-in-law, Jeff Prescher of Rochester; other loving relatives and many close friends. Rodger is preceded in death by his parents.
Pall bearers for Rodger are: Bernie Arseneau, Mike McAlpine, Don Zeyen, Steve McQuarrie, Mark Eckert & Mark Heining.
Visitation is Sunday, October 20, 2013, 4:00-7:00 PM at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home; 4565 Pleasant Street SE; Prior Lake, MN 55372. Celebration of Life Service is Monday, October 21, 2013 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church; 3611 North Berens Road; Prior Lake, MN. Pastor Mark Holman will preside. Rodger will be laid to rest at Spring Lake Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the service at church.
