Roger was born April 3, 1948 in Mott, ND to parents, Marcus and Elizabeth (Schmitt) Steiner. He was the ninth child of 14 children. He grew up on the family farm and was active in Future Farmers of America. In high school, he was active singing in musicals and played football for his high school team. He graduated from Mott high school and was offered a collegiate scholarship in both academics and football.

He then attended North Dakota State University where he was active in Theta Chi Fraternity, and eventually graduated with a major in mathematics. He enjoyed returning to NDSU for the annual pig banquet and reminisce with his old frat buddies.

After college, he moved to northern California and took a job with Levitz Furniture as a merchandise buyer and eventually moved back to Minneapolis and became a store manager. He then took a job at ADC Telecommunications being an Information Analyst. He had the pleasure to travel internationally to places like Australia, Finland, Germany and Mexico. He especially loved the trips to Mexico as he loved the Mexican culture. He retired in 2011, after thirty plus years of service. He was a member of the APICS, with certifications in PIRM, CPIM and CSCP.

Set up on a blind date, Roger met the love of his life, Janice Roeber. After about a year of dating, they proclaimed their love and were married on October 2, 1976 at Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Burnsville, MN. They were blessed with three children, Daniel, Christopher and Erin.

Roger loved the following:

Music, bebopping…..Some say he was a good dancer, some say he was a lovely singer – a resonant bass…..Sprouting trivia – sometimes true, sometimes otherwise…..Finding solutions…..A slow steady battle with the elements…..Trying to create the perfect beach, an ever lush and weedless lawn…..The warmth and spirit of Latino culture…..Trying to do the right thing…..Breaking unnecessary and restrictive rules…..Being jolly and making others jolly…..Drinking good wine on the patio…..Dissecting financial markets…..Pretending he didn’t care for the dog…..Lazy evening sunset pontoon cruises…..seeing the world, connecting with its people.
