Rosalia’s life story
Rosalia Busse
At the age of 93, Rosalia Busse passed away peacefully, the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 13 2013, at her home, in Prior Lake, MN. The Celebration of Life Service will be on Monday, November 18 at 11 am, with visitation starting at 9:30 am, all at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 5634 Luther Road, Prior Lake. Reverend John P. On Sunday, July 18, 1920 in Sand Creek Township, Rosalia Pauline Caroline was born to parents Walter and Clara (Ellis) Oldenburg. She was the oldest of four children. Due to health problems, Rosalia was raised by her grandparents for the first few years. She spent most of the years working on the family farm near Lydia. Attending grade school in Lydia, Rosalia then attended Shakopee High School through the tenth grade.
After high school, Rosalia assisted her family and extended family taking care of the small children. But it was while living on the farm, that she met a young man named Delbert Busse, who assisted her father with field work. Before he was shipped out to Europe, Rosalia married Delbert on February 17, 1943 at the military base in Indian Town Gap in Pennsylvania. Returning from the war, they made their lifelong home in Prior Lake. They were blessed with four children, Allen, Sharon, Barbara and Kevin. As a family, they treasured the weekend vacations they took each year. On October 25, 2012, Rosalia lost her husband of almost 70 years.
Most of Rosalia’s life was spent being a wife and mother. She was a typical post war housewife. Rosalia was busy embroidering, sewing curtains and pillows for the home, clothes for the family and the girl’s dolls. She was always active in the kitchen baking, cooking and canning. Even though she had her own family, Rosalia still cared for her parents and brothers, working on the farm, butchering animals, cleaning and cooking for them.
It was her flower gardens that gave Rosalia great pleasure through the years. She even sunk an old bath tub one time to create a pond. She enjoyed fishing and in the earlier years, catching smelt with Delbert in the spring. In later years, Rosalia loved to collect angel knick-knacks and also has over 100 Fannekins figurines.
Devoted to her faith, Rosalia served on the LWML and communion workers. Active in the community, she was a member of Meals on Wheels and was a fireman’s wife for almost 30 years. Rosalia enjoyed gathering with the other fireman’s wives and preparing food for them when they were called out on big fires.
A giving, kind and quiet wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Rosalia will be deeply missed and remembered always by her children, Allen (Linda) Busse of Jordan, Sharon Adelmann of Belle Plaine, Barbara Busse of Prior Lake and Kevin Busse of Prior Lake; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Joanne, Jennifer, Joseph, Julie, Jerry, Jessie, Jodi and Jean; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Angeline Schesso; other loving relatives and friends.
Rosalia is preceded in death by her husband, Delbert; son-in-law, Leo R. Adelmann; parents, Walter and Clara; brothers, Merlin and Marlin Oldenburg; brother-in-law, Arthur Schesso.
