Sally’s life story
Sally A. Pieper
On Monday, July 27, 1931 on the family farm south of St. Joe, in Sand Creek Township, Seraphia “Sally” Anna was born to parents Lorenz and Margaret (Wick) Pauly. The second oldest of nine children, there was always plenty to do on the farm. When their parents would leave, the children would need to clean the house. They would end up with water fights when cleaning the kitchen floor. Sally attended school at St Joe through the eighth grade.
Most of Sally’s career was spent working in housekeeping at Lynnville until 1985 and then at various other facilities. Dappling in the cooking sector, Sally even worked at Wagner’s Supper Club and a variety of other companies.
In 1948, Sally’s sister, Geraldine married Julian Pieper. Her partner in the wedding was Julian’s brother, Clem. They became friends and while Clem was in the service, Sally wrote to him on a regular basis. Returning from the service, they started dating and on June 1, 1954 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sally married Clemens Alex Pieper. They were blessed with six children, Steve, Larry, Dorothy, Diane, Rick and Lois. Living in Jordan all of their married life, Sally and Clem, with the help from their children, built a new home in 1976.
Dedicated to the community, Sally volunteered with the “wee angels” at school and the children adored her. A volunteer all through her life, she always was lending a helping hand to anyone in need, picking up groceries, doing laundry, and various other details. A faithful servant of the Lord, Sally also was very active at St. John’s Church, again lending a helping hand where every needed. In her spare time, Sally loved to quilt. She was proud of all the quilts handed down to the children and grandchildren. Sally recalled spending many hours piecing, marking and quilting quilts for the parish quilt auction.
A devoted wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma, Sally’s family was most important in her life. She loved the times spent with the children and grandchildren, especially at the holidays. Every visit they made to Sally’s home was special, with fond memories of sleep over’s with the grandchildren. She enjoyed sitting in the shade at the cabin, watching everyone being together. Sally was honored on her 79th birthday, to have her first great-grandchild, Parker Dean born. Over the years, she and Clem have enjoyed playing cards, especially sheephead, with friends and family. She loved to sew, cheer on the Minnesota Twins, jig saw puzzles and picking strawberries for jam.
During the late evening of Saturday, August 17, 2013, Sally entered God’s arms peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 82.
