Sandi’s life story

Sandi Bennett

Born on Wednesday, September 22, 1954 in Norfolk, Virginia, James and Marilyn (Swain) Hall proudly announced the birth of their daughter, Sandra Jay. She was the second of five children. Living just blocks away from Chesapeake Bay, Sandi grew up spending countless hours swimming with family and friends. She graduated from Norview High School in 1973 and went on to complete two additional years of college.

While attending a local establishment, Sandi met the love of her life, her soul mate and best friend, Larry Michael Bennett. On a beautiful Saturday afternoon of April 3, 1982 at Bowcreek Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Sandi and Larry exchanged wedding vows. They were blessed with three children, Rachael, Robert and Ryan.

Sandi did hold various jobs throughout her life, from Cuba to Maine but found working as an assistant to the Director of Nursing the most rewarding.

In 1994, Sandi was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. A woman tough as nails, she persevered through the struggles of the disease and adjusted to life challenges along the way. Most of Sandi’s life was devoted to raising and tending to the daily needs of her family. Every breath Sandi took revolved around her husband, children and grandchildren. She treasured cheering on her sons at their sporting events, painting ceramics, quilting, and baking cookies with her daughter and taking short vacation spending quality time with her husband. As a nana, Sandi loved making specially requested meals and giving plenty of special kisses.

Christmas was her favorite time of the year. The house was decorated from top to bottom with mostly items she created; especially ceramic Santa Claus’ painted with love. Sandi loved making things, especially painting ceramics, quilting and excelling as a cook. Her specialty was Italian dishes.

But on October 30, 2012, Sandi was diagnosed with cancer. She fought a valiant fight with concerns of the family to the end. The late evening hours of Monday, November 26, 2012, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee, MN, with the family at her bedside, Sandi took her last breath. A super wife, a super mom and a super nana, Sandi will always be remember as a loving and highly devoted family orientated woman.

Truly missed already, Sandi will be forever loved by husband of 30 years, Larry of Savage; children, Rachael Hurney of Lakeville, Robert Bennett of Prior Lake, Ryan Bennett of Prior Lake; grandchildren, John Hurney, Bella Hurney; sisters, Cindy (Michael) Brown of Tennessee, Jeanie (Eugene) Wood of Virginia; brother, Clay (Teri) Hall of Virginia; other relatives and friends.

Pall bearers for Sandi will be Robert Bennett, Ryan Bennett, Joseph Hurney, Brandon Grapper, Nick Tofanelli and Ben Bastyr.

Sandi is preceded in death by parents, James and Marilyn; brother, James W. Hall Jr.
