Shirley Ann was born an only child to Claus and Marian (Dean) Peterson. She was born on April 15, 1927, in Coral Gables FL, but grew up in North Minneapolis. Shirley had a cousin, Betty, who lived just down the street and was a like a sister. She graduated from North High School, where Shirley was a lifelong member of the O-Ten Club. She accepted a position with Northwest Bank, as a teller for several years.
Shirley married the love of his life, Vernon Leonard Discher on June 26, 1948, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Minneapolis. They were blessed with two children, Claudia and Dean. The Discher family later settled down their roots in Golden Valley, MN, where the kids grew up. During this time, Shirley also spent countless hours as a troop leader for Claudia’s involvement in Brownies and Girl Scouts.
Shirley and Vern were inseparable. Through the years, they had many adventures. They both loved to travel and were blessed to explore the United States and abroad. Shirley and Vern wintered in Naples, FL for 40 years. They felt fortunate to experience so much, especially for their 25 th wedding anniversary when they took a trip around the world.
Shirley had such a positive attitude and viewed life’s trials and tribulations with the cup half full. She was always on the go, with many activities socializing with family and friends, which she loved the most. Shirley also enjoyed playing bridge and swing dancing with Vern.
Forever loved, Shirley will be missed by daughter, Claudia (Roger) Miller; son, Dean (Mary) Discher; twin grandson, Marcus (Molly) Miller and their children Ruby and Clara; granddaughter, Mollie (Josh) Gudim; other relatives and friends.
Greeting Shirley in heaven is her husband, Vern and parents
