Stanley W. Sandler, 75, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 1, at his home in Savage, Minnesota.
Stanley “Stan” was born in Inglewood, California, to Stanley “Sandy” and Francis Sandler on February 2, 1948. In his early years he enjoyed baseball, surfing, and playing guitar. His love for surfing won out over baseball, he eventually aged out of surfing, and his love for playing guitar grew stronger.
He attended Northridge University, where he met his wife, Harriet (Darr). They were married September 21st, 1968 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Westchester, California. After he graduated with a degree in English Literature, he followed in his father’s footsteps and became a banker. He began his career at Bank of America, and managed several branches throughout his career that took his family from Torrance, California to Santa Maria, California. Stan and Harriet had two sons, Kevin and Matthew.
Stan loved God, his family, and music, specifically classic rock guitar. He often had friends from church or work come over to the house to jam on their guitars. His son Kevin has fond memories of falling asleep while listening to them play their guitars, and “sing”.
Stan was very proud of his family and loved his grandkids. The family sadly lost their youngest son, Matthew, to cancer on November 21st, 1999, at the very young age of 24 years old.
Later in his life, Stan was struck with dementia, and he and Harriet moved from California to Minnesota in November of 2018, to be closer to family. While his mind may have been fading, his love of music never did. Throughout these years he continued to sing along with the radio, even if he didn’t fully know the lyrics. The two most meaningful traits that Stan passed on to his son, Kevin, were his love of music (playing his guitar) and reading his Bible.
Stan was met in heaven by his son Matthew, and his parents. He is survived by his wife Harriet; his son Kevin (Jennifer); his daughter in-law, Laura Sandler; grandchildren, Alex and Matthew Sandler, and Emily Sandler; sister, Sandra Smith and her sons Scott Curran, and Mark Curran and their families, and many other beloved in-laws, nephews, nieces and friends.
A memorial service will be held for Stan at Bridgewood Church in Savage, MN, on Saturday, July 15th, 2023 at 11:00am CST, with visitation at 10:00am.
