Steve Turner, age 77, of Eden Prairie, MN, formerly of Bloomington, MN, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Monday, June 27, 2022.
A Celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Thursday, June 30, at 11 AM at CrossPoint Church, 9801 France Ave S., Bloomington, with a Time of Gathering from 9:45 – 10:45 AM. Pastor Mike Richards will preside.

A private family burial with full military honors held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery later. Memorials are preferred and will be distributed in Steve’s memory by the family. Condolences can be also shared at remembersteveturner@gmail.com
Stephen Claude was born on March 9, 1945, in Cherokee, Iowa. He grew up in Cherokee with his parents, Robert and Selma, and siblings, Donald and Marilyn. From a young age, Steve took an interest in fishing and athletics. He was a talented football and basketball player, once even being carried off the basketball court after scoring a winning basket during a big game. Off the court, Steve was quiet and a little shy, yet he was never afraid of a little mischief!
Following graduation from Cherokee High School in 1964, Steve attended college at Iowa State University, before being drafted into the United States Army. He served in Korea for 1 ½ years, and upon leaving the military moved out to the beautiful beaches of California. A few years later, he moved to Minnesota and began an incredibly successful 40-year career with Arrow Electronics. He was the “go-to-guy” in the office, always willing to lend a hand to his coworkers, but never bragging about his accomplishments.
In August of 1972, Steve was set up on a blind date with the love of his life, Barbara Sumner. They were married 8 ½ months later, on April 28, 1973, at the First Presbyterian Church in Dawson, MN. Steve and Barbara eventually settled in Bloomington, and were blessed with their children, Jonathan and Anna.
While Steve’s career was successful, his family always came first. A proud and loving father, Steve always supported his children in their endeavors. His family has many fond memories of time spent together; whether it be laying on the floor listening to baseball games on the radio, road trips, or Sunday “Family Days,” where someone got to choose where they ate lunch, and what activities the family would participate in after church. Steve and Barbara also loved taking trips together, many of which Steve earned through his accomplishments at work. As the years went on, Steve began a new chapter of his life—being a grandpa! He was delighted by his grandkids, loving to watch them play, and to tease them.
Steve’s faith was an important aspect of his life. He served as an usher and communion server at CrossPoint church and was always willing to lend a hand at church events; preferably “behind-the-scenes.” In his free time, Steve enjoyed golfing, fishing, RV trips and Lutsen trips with the guys. He was an avid sports fan of basketball and baseball.
Steve’s quick-wittedness with unexpected one liners at the least expected times, quiet gentleness, and sense of calm will forever be missed by his wife of nearly 50 years, Barbara; son, Jonathan (Maggie) Turner; daughter, Anna DeNeui; grandchildren, Laney DeNeui, Ariya Turner, Christopher Turner; sister, Marilyn (Darell) Truitt; nephew, Casey (Angie) Truitt; niece, Jennifer (Gary) Harney; foster daughter, Laurel (Wade) Olson; and many other loving relatives and friends.
Welcoming Steve home in Heaven are his parents, Robert and Selma Turner; parents-in-law, Harold and Marcella Sumner; and brother, Donald Turner.
