On January 24, 1962 in Le Sueur, Minnesota, parents Allan and Leona (Maltz) Sellnow celebrated the birth of their daughter, Susan LaVerne Sellnow. She was on of four children. Along with her siblings, Sue grew up in Blakeley and attended school in Belle Plaine.
Following her graduation from Belle Plaine High School, Sue attended Brown College and received a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. Striving for more education, Sue also took certification courses in early childhood education. Sue held a variety of jobs over the years as a daycare provider, bank teller, and most recently working in customer service.
Sue’s life was enriched when she was introduced to a young man, Dale Johnson, at her church in Belle Plaine. Dale was visiting his grandfather for the weekend, but made a point to return each following weekend in the hopes of spending some time with Sue. The young couple dated for four years before exchanging wedding vows on November 7, 1981. This union was blessed with a daughter, Nicole.
Wherever Sue’s family was, that’s where Sue could be found! Together, they traveled throughout the United States and enjoyed camping in northern Minnesota. Sue was delighted her family continued to grow with the birth of her grandchildren. She loved hosting the holidays—her extended family was always welcome too.

When they family moved to Chaska, she volunteered at with the Chaska Community Theater as the costume designer. When her daughter was married, she dedicated two years to sewing the entire wedding party their outfits, as well as her daughter’s wedding dress.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Dale Johnson; daughter, Nicole (Josh) Knable; grandchildren, Willow and Fayth Knable; mother, Leona Sellnow; siblings, Linda (Kenny) Glisczinski, Donna (Steve) Herrmann, Sandy (Brian) Schmitz; many other loving relatives.
