Theodorus "Ted" Veldhuis

Theodorus “Ted” Veldhuis, age 91, of Prior Lake, passed away with his family at his side on Friday, March 21, 2025.

Mass of Christian Burial is Friday, March 28, 2025 at 11:00 AM with a visitation from 9:30 - 10:45 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church in Prior Lake. Father Tom Walker will preside, and Ted will be laid to rest at St. Michael's Cemetery in Prior Lake. Urn bearers will be his grandson, Alex Veldhuis and great-grandson, Carter Gordon.

Ted was born on August 25, 1933 in the small town of Oldenzaal, Netherlands to parents Gerard and Johanna Maria (Rosens) Veldhuis. He was the youngest of five sons. During his childhood, Ted endured the loss of his father when he was nine and the German occupation of the Netherlands during Word War II.

Ted met and married Alberta Susanna Belderink; they exchanged wedding vows in Oldenzaal, Holland on April 11, 1959. They then decided to immigrate and join his older brother Henk’s family in America. Their honeymoon was sailing across the Atlantic to the USA. They eventually settled in St. Louis Park then moved to Prior Lake where they raised their family.

Ted worked tirelessly to provide for his family while working for Control Data / Ceridian as a tool maker before retiring August 1, 1995. He also attended Dunwoody Institute and learned English as his second language along with Betty. In retirement, Ted and Betty loved to travel with friends, woodworking, gardening and yard work. Regardless of what Ted was doing, he always enjoyed life and kept a smile on his face.

Ted’s memory will be cherished by his wife of 65 years, Alberta “Betty” Veldhuis; children, Bonnie (Jeff) Lund and Mark (Karen) Veldhuis; grandchildren, Corinne (Josh) Gordon, Alex (Ashli) Veldhuis, Stephanie Veldhuis and Kaitlin Lund; great-grandchildren, Carter, Callum & Grayden Gordon and Tatum Veldhuis.

Ted is reunited in Heaven with his parents, Gerard and Johanna Maria Veldhuis; brothers, Antone, Gerard, Marinus and Henk Veldhuis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be distributed to charities by Ted’s family.
