At the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, Vernon Leonard Discher was born to Leonard and Ann (Peterzen) Discher on January 28, 1927. An only child, he grew up near the University of Minnesota. One of Vern’s cousins lived just down the block and they formed an unbreakable bond. Throughout life, they called each other brother cousin! Despite experiencing hearing loss as a child, Vern was fortunate to receive a wonderful education. He graduated from Marshall High School.
Vern furthered his education at the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis where he studied drafting. A hardworking man, Vern built many successful businesses over the years. He began his career at Northland Fabrication in Rogers which he later purchased and renamed North Fab. The company specialized in making windows, doors, and walk-in coolers for the food industry. Vern also ran Sun Fab, a fabrication business in Fort Meyers, FL. After 30 years of dedication, Vern sold the business and retired.
Vern was not only a dedicated worker; he was a devoted family man. He married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Peterson, on June 26, 1948 in North Minneapolis. They were blessed with two children, Claudia and Dean, and later moved to Golden Valley were they raised their family. In his free time, Vern most enjoyed photography and spending time with family & friends.
Over the years, Vern and Shirley had many adventures. They wintered in Florida for 40 years and traveled extensively. They felt fortunate to experience so much, especially for their 25 th wedding anniversary when they took a trip around the world.
Vern will be greatly missed by his wife of 71 years, Shirley; daughter, Claudia (Roger) Miller; son, Dean (Mary) Discher; twin grandchildren, Marcus (Molly) Miller, Mollie Miller; great-grandchildren, Ruby Miller, and Clara Miller; other relatives and devoted friends.
Vern is greeted in Heaven by his parents, Leonard and Ann Discher.
