Vernon’s life story

Vernon H. Busch

On Monday, October 15, 1934, in the family home in Jordan, MN, Vernon Henry was born to parents John “Lefty” and Rose (Schommer) Busch. The fifth of eight children, each family member was given a nickname, Vern’s was Porky. Growing up in Jordan, his love for sports was formed. Vern enjoyed playing football and especially baseball. He played positions of pitcher and in the outfield for the Marystown baseball team and later on for the Jordan Brewers.

Graduating from Jordan High School in 1953, Vern soon married the love of his life. On Saturday, August 27, 1955 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan, MN, Vern was united in marriage to Kathryn Francis Seger. This past year they celebrated 57 years of marriage. Vern and Kathryn were blessed with three children, Kent, Keith and Kim.

Most of Vern’s career was spent working at Owen’s Illinois in Shakopee. He then took on a maintenance position at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Shakopee. Upon retiring, Vern spent each spring and fall at Canterbury Park in the maintenance department for several years, which he truly enjoyed.

Vern’s love for fishing began as a young boy at the Mill Pond falls. Passing the love of fishing on to his kids, the family cherished their annual trip to Spider Lake in Grand Rapids, MN. Vern was an avid deer hunter. Upon retiring, he became a talented wood worker, building toys, clocks and other precious items. Vern and Kathryn took great pride in tending to their vegetable and flower gardens. Together, they also spent time attending many of their grandchildren’s extracurricular activities.

Vern spent Tuesday, the 22nd, at Mystic Lake, enjoying winning two games of bingo with his daughter. Leading a simple life, Vern was quiet and reserved, yet strong willed and a saver. The late evening of Tuesday, January 22, 2013, Vern, age 78, passed away unexpectedly and was greeted in heaven by his wife, Kathryn. He was a resident of Shakopee.

Deeply missed and remembered always by those who loved Vern: children, Kent Busch of Shawnee, KS, Keith Busch of Shanghai, China, Kim (Tim) Hartman of Shakopee; grandchildren, Emily and Grace Hartman and Mandy Cooper; sisters, Corinne Welch of Rochester, Gloria (Butch) Mamer of Jordan; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Busch of Chaska, Mamie Busch and Rosie Busch of Jordan; other loving relatives and devoted friends.
