1933 – 2023
Werner “John” Pipkorn, a talented artist and illustrator, passed away on June 28, 2023. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1933, attended Central High School in St. Paul, and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, John attended Art Center College of Design in California and embarked on a prolific career as an illustrator, lending his artistic talents to architectural and design firms for over 30 years. His impressive drawing and painting skills, combined with an eye for detail, brought a distinct style to his countless projects.
John also pursued a passion for fine art, creating hundreds of pieces in acrylic, watercolor and oil. He had a particular passion for ships and classic architecture, which inspired him to create many luminous paintings.
John will be remembered for his kind spirit, creative mind, and dedication to his craft. He touched many lives through his illustrations and art, as well as through his kindness and charity to others. He is survived by his wife, Catherine, his sons Andrew (Erin), Marcus, Daniel and James; and his sister Corrine (d. Gordon) and is preceded in death by his brother Howard (Susan). He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 28 at 1:30 pm at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota with a gathering after the service.
