Bill’s life story

William “Bill” Wangerin

Bill was born February 24, 1936 on the family farm to parents William and Irene (Mueller) Wangerin. The youngest of five children, his childhood was spent in Spring Lake Township on the farm and attending school at Fish Lake Immanuel Lutheran Church.

He married his sweetheart, Carol Evermann, on August 31, 1957 at Fish Lake Immanuel. They bought a cabin on Spring Lake that he took much pride in remodeling and transforming into a home to accommodate their growing family – son Tom, daughter Lori and son Terry and later “outlaws” David and Kathie and grandsons Timmy and Tyler. They have been there for 56 years.

Bill went to work for Schrader Block and Tile where he managed and drove truck. He retired from Belle Plaine Block and Tile in 1996. Active in his church community he served on several boards and was an elder of the church for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, watching the Minnesota Twins, going for long drives with his sweetie and watching his grandsons play sports. He loved to work with his hands wood crafting and refinishing furniture. He was proud of his wooden animal collection that came from the travels of him, his family and friends.

Bill was known for his sense of humor and the smile and smirk around his trusty toothpick. He always had a funny and sarcastic comment or comeback that was delivered with a twinkle in his eye and a thumbs up. He was a strong man of deep faith and he was a gentle giant with a gooey heart. He touched so many lives and if you knew him you loved him and if he got to know you he loved you right back. The love and pride he had in his family glowed in his eyes. On September 11, 2013 he was peacefully called home to Jesus.

Deeply missed and remembered always by those who loved Bill, wife, Carol of 56 years; children, Tom Wangerin of Prior Lake, Lori (David) Moline of Prior Lake, Terry (Kathie) Wangerin of Prior Lake; grandsons, Timmy and Tyler Moline; siblings, Clifford (Janice) Wangerin of Bloomington, Delmont “Bud” Wangerin of Lydia, Arvilla Vohnoutka of Shakopee; brother-in-law, David (Carol) Evermann of Prior Lake; nieces, nephews and other relatives and devoted friends.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William and Irene; brother, Dwane (Evie) Wangerin; brother-in-law, Dan Vohnoutka; Godson, Dale Vohnoutka; parents-in-law, Paul and Glorine Evermann.
